Spent a few days in Seoul, South Korea hosted by Dr Heesun Chung, Director General of National Forensic Sciences and visiting their laboratories and autopsy facilities. Fantastic centralised planning. Also had opportunity to see 112 Op Centre of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Crime levels very low, so there was general surprise at the British Crime Survey figures I showed. Wonderful hosts and am sure that the 2014 International Association of Forensic Sciences Meeting will be superb. Erin Worrell, a medicolegal investigator also spoke at the Korean Forensic Science Society meeting, seen here with husband Pat.

Have been preparing for an updated FOI study on provision of healthcare in police custody with co-researches, Will Anderson, Peter Green and Atholl Johnston. Hoping that, in the interests of transparency, there will be fewer s12 and s43 refusals.
Two recent death in custody inquests where alcohol and injury played a part. Participated in a FFLM Development course. Spoke on Injury Classification – always produces lively debate. FME work in London showing high numbers of alcohol dependence issues at present.
Commencing work on new book (co-edited with Duarte Nuno Vieira and Joe Beynon – on Monitoring Detention, and just put in new proposal with John Gall for Volume 2 of Current Practice in Forensic Medicine. Encyclopedia of Forensic & Legal Medicine (2nd Edition) will be underway soon.
Usual pre-holiday build up of courts, prison visits and on call that require massive diary time.
Forensigraph.com site on way to being live. Plenty to do at the moment.
